As we work from home and are staying inside, our elderly loved ones and family members are all missing each other. For our elderly loved ones in facilities, they are especially lonely without visitors or being able to leave. There are several ways though we can keep in touch and stay connected.
The best way to see each others’ faces and hear their voices is through video chats! Zoom, Google Hangouts, and GotoMeeting are a few great video chat platforms where multiple family members can chat and talk to our elderly family members. While elderly members may not be tech-savvy, asking them which one they would feel comfortable with can be a good starting point. If they have smart phones then maybe Facetime is the best option, also.
Since everyone is quarantined, we have this time to write hand-written personal letters, notes, and pictures to our elderly members now. We can also look up and find things that bring them joy such as old photos, kids’ drawings, and holiday cards.
